Image 1-2: This image showcases an example of the potential simplicity that I require from the reference photo process. Initially, I incorporated the tapestry and the plant but decided against it later on in the painting process. At the time of the reference photo session, I had already shot images of someone else in a fur coat. So, I staged this figure in a similar position.

Image 5-6: Around the time that I completed the original portrait, I observed the painting “Woman in a fur hat” by Gretchen Woodman Rogers. I was immediately inspired to make my own rendition of this historic image while continuing to use the reference that I acquired weeks before.
